As an Autoimmune Wellness Coach...
I help people with autoimmune conditions and chronic illness recover (yes, recover!) through food and lifestyle changes. You are thinking "Yay, right?!?" Right? So many of my clients have been told there is nothing we can do. Just take these meds and prepare yourself to live with this condition. Pardon me if I get a bit grumpy!!! I was told that as well, but it is not true. By using a holistic, whole-body approach, we can turn that around! I help my clients achieve this every day.
End the Fatigue and Get Your Energy Back! As your Integrative Nutritional Health Coach, my sole purpose is to support you and help your body truly heal. I walk beside you through the ups and downs as you make life-giving changes and make them a permanent part of your life. I help you identify destructive patterns, and teach you solutions that aren't another pill but are healthy life choices. Choices that help you heal. Welcome to hope!
What happens when you work with me....We dive deep into what your autoimmune condition and symptoms are, create a recovery plan that includes targeted nutrition, possible supplementation, and lifestyle changes specific to your case. My approach is deeply rooted in functional medicine, focused on getting to the root cause of the condition and addressing it. The result...recovery and continued health. You move from the victim to the master of your health, from being told what to do, to being confident in your place of leadership in your own healthcare.
What makes me different than any other health coach? I only work with autoimmune clients and am seeing massive recovery for them. Nothing in me accepts the lie that an autoimmune condition cannot be reversed. I have an autoimmune condition myself, Multiple Sclerosis. I have an unquenchable belief in the healing potential of your body, and nutrition, backed by training, experience, and personal life. I use data, gathered by you, to guide our sessions and protocol so that every part of this program is individual to you. I am continually up-leveling my education to serve you better.

This special gal, GW, came to me having been diagnosed with a thyroid condition that caused her heart to race, shortness of breath, anxiety, depression, bloating and serious GI issues, constant fatigue, skin irritations. We have been working together for about 3 weeks, and are nearly through the initial period of discovering what foods/environment/toxins were contributing to her condition.
So......she was at an event that had no food choices that were within her current diet restrictions. So, she just ate everything. Within 24 hours her heart was racing, she had shortness of breath, diarrhea, depression was back, her outlook on life was dark and she was being short with her kids again.
She hadn't realized that those symptoms had gone away until she experienced them coming back. She is learning how to control her condition! This just makes me soooo happy! This is the end goal...to help my clients learn the necessary tools to be in charge of their own health!
So, long story short, she is recovering from the "oops" that happened and has a new arsenal of tools in her toolbox to be able to make the best choices for herself, using clues given to us by her own body.
We are nearly ready for the next phase of her program. I am so excited to see what she achieves next!
Fast forward to week 8....She is gaining energy daily, her mind is clearing, she is learning to stand up for herself at work and to put her own health/rest/exercise/state of mind first. She is dreaming of grand kids, and a new business....something that she would not even discuss when we began. A definite side effect of working with me is....you begin to live again! Cheers!
Update: She graduated from the program with no symptoms remaining. She has the tools to keep going that way!

Q. What issues were you dealing with physically when we began?
A. I had severe pain in my spine, back and down my legs including sciatic pain. Numbness in my hands, up my arms and in my feet. Most of this was a result of apparent nerve damage in my neck and spine. After surgery in 2014, some of my numbness lessened, but then pain seemed to take it’s place. I am diabetic and my numbers were going higher. I suffered from fatigue and brain fog most days.
Q. What positive progress have you seen to date? A. Results of working with Melissa Homner are: very little pain left, and my brain fog seems to be mostly gone leaving me with clearer thoughts. My diabetic numbers are in control and hopefully I will be able to eliminate medication for it. I have virtually eliminated my medication for acid reflux.
Q. How many weeks have you been working with Melissa?
A. I have been actively working the program for 6 weeks.
Q. Would you recommend my services to others?
A. It has been amazing to see how diet changes can make such a difference in my health. The anxiety of eliminating foods that I love has not been as hard as I thought. Controlling the inflammation in my body has made life so much better. I would recommend Melissa to anyone looking to improve health and reduce symptoms of pain, fatigue and other challenges you may have. I am so thankful for her knowledge and mission to help others. --MZ, current client
He is currently much more active, walking over a mile every morning, with only pain from muscles being strengthened. Controlling the inflammation and pain through diet has changed his life. He's looking forward to summer activities!
Update: He went on three fishing trips this summer out of country and feels better than he has in years.
JC is my first client with MS. As you know, people with Multiple Sclerosis have a special place in my heart. When she came to me, she was scared to death. Her health was failing rapidly. Her diagnosis had come 1 1/2 years ago and even though she was on a biologic drug, the decline was not slowing. On a good day, she walked with a cane, on her bad days, she was wheelchair bound. We dove right into finding her food triggers and nourishing her body. As I write this, she is on a trip with her family. She is walking beautifully, hasn't used her cane for 6 weeks. Her doctor is astonished. Her mind has cleared, she has energy, her MS symptoms have all resolved except for an occasional tingling in her fingers and toes. This has diminished and I fully expect that to disappear with time. Her work is no longer suffering, her marriage has rekindled, and they have booked a family vacation to a spot special to she and her husband, because she can walk again! Is this some miracle? In a way, yes. But this is what can happen when we create an environment of healing and nourish the body so that it can take over it's own recovery. Thank you, JC, for allowing me the honor of be a part of your journey to healing. -Coach Melissa
