Nobody Talks About the Middle of Recovery
Social media shows you the before and the after.
The "I was bedridden" and the "now I'm thriving."
But nobody talks about the middle.
The part where symptoms shift and new weird things show up. Where anger surfaces that you didn't know was there. Where the wins feel slim and you're just trying to stay the course.
That's the part most programs abandon you in.
And that's exactly the part I want to talk about today — because it's where the real work happens, and it's where the most profound transformations begin.
What the Deep Parts Actually Look Like
Earlier this year, I had the first group call of 2026 with a cohort of women in our Vibrant Foundations Immersion program. These women were deep in parasite work — weeks 8 through 16 and beyond. I named it directly on the call: "You're in the deep parts. And it doesn't surprise me that the wins are slim right now."
But here's what those "slim wins" actually looked like when we went around the room:
One woman had made it through the entire holiday season without getting sick — while everyone around her was knocked flat with a severe flu. Her words: the only reason she stayed healthy was because of what the program had built in her body. Her terrain was strong enough to hold.
Another woman — who grew up barefoot on a ranch, surrounded by farm animals her entire childhood — was actively clearing multiple types of parasites. Three distinct types and counting. Her attitude? She was excited that they were finally departing.
A third woman reported that during her first week of parasite support, her neurological symptoms spiked — muscle spasms, twitches, her legs jerking. It was alarming. But then it settled. And in its wake? Zero brain fog.
I told her what I tell every client who experiences this: I almost celebrate neurological spikes. Because when we're touching what's actually causing those symptoms, they will flare. And when they flare and come back down — that's not a setback. That's evidence of progress.
The Wins That Don't Show Up on Lab Results
What struck me most about this call wasn't the physical progress — though that was real and measurable. It was the mindset shifts happening alongside it.
One woman's win for the new year was simply this: "I made it to 2026. I haven't quit this program. I still believe that I'm recovering from the inside out, and I need to be patient."
That might not sound dramatic. But when you understand what she'd been walking through — intense emotional release, physical difficulty, uncertainty, mornings where anger surfaced so strongly she had to journal through it before she could function — staying is an act of extraordinary courage.
She described choosing to let the anger move through her instead of stuffing it down. Her body was working through old stored material. And she was letting it.
Another woman said something that stopped everyone on the call:
"Two years ago, if you'd asked me if I'd be doing coffee enemas and rebounding and lymphatic massage, I would have never said yes. But here I am. And better for it."
And then she said: "I put everybody else first for years. It was a decision I made. But I'm not doing that anymore. I'm choosing myself."
Two separate women, independently, arrived at the same place: choosing themselves. Setting boundaries. Not apologizing for it.
This is the work that doesn't show up in lab results. But it's foundational to everything else.
Why Most Programs Can't Hold This
Here's what I want you to understand about what you just read: this isn't a highlight reel. This is a single Tuesday call. This is what it actually looks like inside a program designed to walk with you through the deep parts — not just hand you a protocol and wish you luck.
The bloating that reduced because someone added legs-up-the-wall and ginger capsules with warm water each morning. The woman tracking her HRV and noticing her best nights correlated directly with her evening practice. The peer-to-peer moments where clients started coaching each other without being asked — sharing food app recommendations, comparing notes on symptoms, encouraging each other around patience.
This is community. This is terrain medicine in practice. Not a quick fix. Not a 30-day reset. A sustained, supported, deeply personalized investigation into what your body actually needs — with practitioners and peers who stay with you when it gets hard.
Because it does get hard. And that's not a failure. That's the work.
The Part Nobody Tells You
One of the women on this call said something in the closing conversation that I think about constantly:
"Unless you're in this realm, you don't really know things like this exist. So however you get the word out — that these opportunities and programs are available — awareness is everything."
She's right. Most people navigating autoimmune challenges have no idea that this kind of support exists. They're cycling through specialists, getting "normal" lab results, trying generic protocols, and wondering why nothing sticks.
This isn't what you'll walk out of a doctor's office with. It's something different. And you have to be open to it. But when you are — everything changes.
If This Resonates
If you're reading this and thinking "that sounds like me" — if you've been putting everyone else first, if you've been told your labs are normal while your body tells a different story, if you've tried the general approaches and they haven't gotten to the root of what's actually happening — here's where to start:
Book a Clarity Call. This is a 30-minute call with me where we look at what's going on in your body, what you've already tried, and where the gaps might be. It's not a sales pitch — it's an honest conversation about whether working together makes sense for your situation. → Book your clarity call
Explore VFI. Vibrant Foundations Immersion is where the women in this post are doing their work. It's a group program built around personalized investigation, terrain medicine principles, and the kind of sustained support that holds you through the deep parts. If you want to know more, the clarity call is the place to start. →Explore VFI Here
One-on-one availability. For individuals who need or prefer a fully private, intensive approach, I'm currently accepting 3 one-on-one clients. This is limited and by application only — if that's what your situation calls for, mention it when you book your clarity call and we'll discuss whether it's the right fit. → Book your clarity call
Your body isn't broken. It's communicating. And the middle of recovery — the messy, raw, hard, beautiful middle — is where everything changes.
To your recovery,
Melissa💚
