Morning Drainage Kickstart Protocol
Support your body's natural detoxification with this evidence-based morning routine designed to activate drainage pathways and optimize terrain health.
What You'll Do Each Morning
- Drink warm water with apple cider vinegar and sea salt to stimulate bile flow and lymphatic drainage
- Choose gentle bouncing or dry brushing to activate lymphatic movement (3-5 minutes)
- Practice 4-4-4 breathing to stimulate vagus nerve and shift into parasympathetic mode
What You'll Notice
- Improved elimination and digestive function
- Reduced puffiness and bloating
- Clearer thinking and sustained energy
- Better understanding of your body's natural rhythms
Materials You'll Need
- Raw apple cider vinegar (with "the mother") — available at any grocery store
- Celtic sea salt or Himalayan pink salt
- Dry brush (optional, if choosing Option B for Step 2) — available at health stores or online
- Journal or notes app on your phone or use our Practice Better Journal App
Hydration + Drainage Support
What to do:
Upon waking, drink 8 oz of warm water with:
- 1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar
- 1 pinch of sea salt
Why this works:
- Warm water stimulates bile flow and activates your digestive system
- Apple cider vinegar supports stomach acid production and liver function
- Sea salt provides trace minerals that support lymphatic drainage and cellular hydration
What you might notice:
- You may need to use the bathroom within 10–15 minutes (this is good — your body is eliminating)
- You may feel a gentle "wake up" in your digestive system
- Some people notice clearer thinking within 10–15 minutes
Lymphatic Movement
Choose one option:
Option A: Gentle Bouncing
- Stand with feet hip-width apart
- Gently bounce on the balls of your feet (don't jump — just bounce)
- Let your arms hang loose and swing naturally
- Continue for 3–5 minutes
Option B: Dry Brushing
- Using a natural bristle brush, brush your skin in upward strokes toward your heart
- Start at your feet, move up your legs, then arms, then torso
- Focus on areas that feel puffy or congested
- Do this for 3–5 minutes before your shower
Why this works:
- Your lymphatic system doesn't have a pump — it relies on movement
- Gentle bouncing or brushing stimulates lymph flow and helps move toxins toward elimination
- This activates your body's natural detox pathways without forcing anything
What you might notice:
- You may feel slightly energized (like you "woke up" your body)
- Some people notice they need to urinate more throughout the day (drainage working)
- You may feel less puffy or swollen, especially in your face, hands, or ankles
Vagus Nerve Activation
What to do: 5 cycles of 4-4-4 breathing
- Inhale through your nose for 4 counts
- Hold for 4 counts
- Exhale through your mouth for 4 counts
- Repeat 5 times total
Why this works:
- Deep breathing stimulates your vagus nerve, which controls digestion, detoxification, and immune regulation
- It shifts your nervous system from "fight or flight" to "rest and digest"
- It physically moves your diaphragm, which pumps lymph through your abdomen
What you might notice:
- You'll feel calmer, more centered, more grounded
- Your mind may feel clearer
- Your body will signal that it's safe to digest and recover

Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar (available at most grocery stores or Amazon). Look for the cloudy sediment at the bottom — that's "the mother" (beneficial bacteria and enzymes).
Celtic Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt (available at health stores or online). Avoid regular table salt — it doesn't have the trace minerals your body needs.
Natural bristle dry brush (available at health stores, Whole Foods, or Amazon for $8–15). Look for one with a long handle if you want to reach your back.
