"Nobody asked why."

Three years after we started working together, RayLynn sat down with me to talk about fear, the questions no one would answer, and what changed when we finally went looking for her why.

When the answer was "we don't know"

After her breast cancer diagnosis and surgery, RayLynn kept asking one question: why? No one in her family had a history of breast cancer. A genetic test had been run, but nothing was ever done with the results.

She had already lived through years of being handed medication after medication. She carried a lot of fear: for her health, for her future, and for her husband, who had walked this road once before with his first wife. She was looking for direction, and for someone who would look at her.

"Go find out why for this individual, not based on 20 other or 200 or 2,000 other people."

Looking at her, not the average

Root cause investigation started with RayLynn as an individual:

  • Her testing and her genetics
  • Her health history, including years of medications her body had processed
  • The stress and trauma load her body had carried

From there, we built a support plan around what her body actually needed, including nutrients in forms her body could absorb. Just as important, I walked her through the reasoning behind every piece, so she understood not only what to do but why.

"You never just came back and said, this is what I found. You came back and gave me pages of why."

Three years later

Today, RayLynn still follows the plan she understands. She'll tell you she doesn't do it perfectly, and that's okay. She knows her body better, she asks questions when a new prescription is suggested, and she doesn't face what comes next alone.

"Every time I go, I have that tiny bit of fear… But then I go to, well, if so, I'm calling Melissa."

From Sh*t to Sunshine: Finding Freedom Through Faith

Long before her breast cancer diagnosis, RayLynn walked through decades of trauma and spiritual manipulation and came out the other side with her faith, her humor, and a deep resilience. In her memoir, she shares that journey with raw honesty, so others walking through their own hard seasons can find their way to hope.

It's the same spirit you hear in our conversation: a woman who asks hard questions, refuses to settle for "just in case," and wants every person she meets to know that what they're walking through doesn't have to be the end of the story.

"I want people to have hope. No matter what they're walking through, there's hope."
